Resumo: Burkitt lymphoma (BL), a subtype of B cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), is a highly aggressive neoplasm. BL shows three variants: endemic, sporadic, and immunodeficiency associated. An HIV-positive 36-year-old woman was referred for evaluation of extensive swellings in the mouth with three weeks of evolution. Physical examination showed facial asymmetry, dysphagia, and difficulty in opening the mouth and the right eye. Intraoral evaluation displayed painless nodular masses affecting maxilla and mandible. Panoramic radiography showed involvement of the jaw bones. A biopsy was performed, and the microscopic examination revealed atypical lymphoid infiltrate suggestive of lymphoma. Immunohistochemistry reactions were positive for CD20 (L26), CD10 (56C6; 90%), Bcl6 (PG-B6p; 80%), Ki-67 (MIB-1; +95%) and negative for CD3 (polyclonal), Bcl2 (124), CD30 (Ber-H2) and TDT (EP266). These findings led to the diagnosis of BL. The patient was referred to onco-hematological treatment. However, she died before starting it due to the rapid progression of the disease.
