Resumo: A 53-year-old male patient was admitted to the hospital to treat sequelae of coinfection from leishmaniasis and paracoccidioidomycosis. He is HIV positive and lived in a rural area in his youth. Physical exam revealed nasal wing collapse, full destruction of the hard palate with an opening to the nasal cavity, erythematous and erosive areas on the soft palate, poor dental health, and buccolingual inclination of the upper teeth, resulting in dysphagia, dysphonia, and weight loss. To restore the patient's function, it was decided to make a palatal obturator plate during hospitalization. Molding, fabrication of a plaster model, staples with orthodontic wire, and an obturator plate with acrylic resin were made. Adjustments and guidelines for proper use were required, allowing medication, soft food intake, and discharge from the hospital. Rehabilitation with an obturator prosthesis is a complementary option for mutilated patients and demonstrates the fundamental role of dentistry in biopsychosocial rehabilitation.
