Resumo: Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy (LGMD) is a rare hereditary degenerative disease characterized by muscle weakness and progressive dystrophic changes that mainly affect the pelvic and/or scapular muscles (facial muscles are rarely affected). A 12-year-old female diagnosed with LGMD type 2 was referred by the neuropediatrician for dental evaluation. The patient used to eat soft food due to chewing and swallowing difficulties and also reported digestive problems and gastroesophageal reflux. The intraoral examination indicated malocclusion, tooth crowding, limited mouth opening, poor oral hygiene, and active caries. Tooth cleaning, treatment of carious lesions, and orthodontic treatment were performed to improve the clinical condition. The oral and muscle changes resulting from LGMD directly compromise stomatognathic functions and a multidisciplinary follow-up (genetic counseling, physiotherapy, and dentistry) is imperative.
