Resumo: Oral malignant melanoma (OMM) represents an extremely rare neoplasm. In contrast to cutaneous melanomas, the risk factors and pathogenesis are poorly understood. Here, we report a case of OMM occurring in a 69-year-old female patient. Ten years ago, the patient was referred for evaluation of an extensive asymptomatic pigmented lesion on the left side of the hard palate under the total prosthesis. Incisional biopsy was performed and histopathological, analysis revealed a variable proliferation of fusiform and pigmented epithelioid cells, with cellular pleomorphism and a high mitotic index. These cells were positive for S-100, MelanA, and HMB-45 confirming the diagnosis of OMM. The patient underwent partial maxillectomy and adjuvant radiotherapy. After treatment, she was rehabilitated with palatal obturator prosthesis and in follow-up for 10 years without evidence of disease.
