Resumo: Introduction: Actinic cheilitis (AC) is a potentially malignant lesion that mainly affects the lower lip, due to the incidence of sunlight. The treatment for AC is vermilionectomy (the removal of the lip vermillion). Objective: To analyze the aesthetic and functional results of classic vermilionectomy and W-plasty in actinic cheilitis. In the classic technique, the scar is linear; in W-plasty, in broken line.Study Design: Articles published in the last 5 years on the PubMed platform were evaluated. Parameters such as scar retraction and functional changes were considered. Results: There was a significant association between the technique used and the presence of scar retraction, with a positive association with the classic one. None of the techniques presented functional alterations. Postoperative complications such as the presence of crusts, dry lips, paresthesia and suture dehiscence were evaluated. There was no significant association between complications and the technique used. Conclusion: It was concluded that W-plasty vermilionectomy offers better aesthetic results and similar complications.
