Título: ORAL CAVITY CANCER IN ADULTS IN THE STATE OF SANTA CATARINA BETWEEN 2009 AND 2018: AN ECOLOGICAL STUDY

Resumo: The aim of this study was to identify the epidemiological profile of oral cavity cancer cases in adults in the Health Macro regions of the State of Santa Catarina between 2009 and 2018. Material and methods: Ecological study in which cases of oral cavity cancer were analyzed in adults in the State of Santa Catarina, relating to the variables, sex, age, race, alcohol and tobacco consumption, type of cancer and staging according to the period 2009-2018 and the Health Macro regions. Results: 913 cases were evaluated. 766 (83,9%) male cases. 852 (93,3%) cases represented the white race. 347 (38%) were aged between 50-59 years. Alcoholism was observed in 333 (6,5%) cases. 482 (52,8%) reported being smokers. Other parts and non-specific parts of the Tongue Malignant Neoplasm was more common, with 216 (26,9%) cases. Locally advanced type IV malignant tumors were observed in 501 (54,9%0 cases. The macro region with de highest incidence was Greater Florianopolis, with 300 cases (32,9%). In 2009, 166 (18,2%) cases were registered and in 2018 this number went to 42 (4,6%). Conclusion: The epidemiological profile is composed of men, aged 50-59 years, white, with smoking and alcohol consumption. The most common location is on the tongue.
