Título: VERRUCOUS CARCINOMA IN THE ANTERIOR REGION OF THE MAXILLA: CASE REPORT

Resumo: Verrucous carcinoma represents an uncommon variant of squamous cell carcinoma especially in intraosseous location. In this report, we describe the case of 78- years- old male, Caucasian, referred with a history of swelling in the anterior maxilla region for about a month. Intraoral examination showed expansion of bone cortical recovered by an oral mucosa showing redness areas. There was an area with secretion drainage. Radiographic examination showed a radiolucent area located in the anterior maxilla extending beyond the midline. The clinic radiographic hypotheses were of infected odontogenic keratocysts or residual cyst. An incisional biopsy was performed after antibiotic therapy. Histological sections showed areas of acanthosis and hyperplasia, presence of keratin pearls, cells with hyperchromatism and nuclear pleomorphism. Histopathological diagnosis was verrucous carcinoma. Patient was referred to the head and neck surgeon and submitted to surgery followed by radiotherapy. At the moment, the patient is still under follow-up.
