Título: PSAMMOMATOID JUVENILE OSSIFYING FIBROMA OF THE MANDIBLE: A CASE REPORT

Resumo: Juvenile Ossifying Fibroma (JOF) is an aggressive cranifacial bone-forming tumor rarely observed in the jaws. We hereby report a case of a 21-year-old female presenting a painless hard-consistent swelling in the anterior region of the mandible, with seven months of evolution. Computed tomography showed a well-demarcated mixed lesion extending from tooth 35 to 44, promoting expansion and thinning of the buccal cortical bone, and root resorption (33, 32, 31, 41, 42 and 43). An incisional biopsy was performed, which revealed a hypercellular fibrous connective tissue containing acellular mineralized basophilic globular bodies. The final diagnosis was Psamomatoid JOF. The treatment was surgical resection and placement of a reconstruction plate. No recurrence was observed after three years of follow-up. The psammomatoid variant of JOF is locally aggresive and should be properly distinguished from other fibro-osseous lesions of the jaws. A discussion on the clinicopathologic criteria of differential diagnosis is also provided herein.
