Título: IMPACT OF TOBACCO CONTROL POLICIES ON THE INCIDENCE, MORTALITY AND DALY OF ORAL CANCER

Resumo: This study evaluated, through an interrupted time series, the impact of MPOWER (Monitor, Protect, Offer, Warn, Enforce, Raise) tobacco control policy measures on the incidence(I), mortality(M) and adjusted life year lost (DaLY) rates of oral cancer, from 1990 to 2020, at a global level. The countries were separated into two groups based on whether they adhered or not MPOWER policies (non-adhered-G1 and adhered-G2). Also, adhering countries were divided into two subgroups by the median MPOWER scores, G2I: equal or lower median, and G2II: higher median. Overall, the mean and standard deviation of post intervention rates (2017-2019) compared to pre intervention rates (1990-1992) increased in G1(pre-I:7.75+3.98; M:4.38+2.44; DaLY:109+59/post-I:9.65+7.99; M:4.68+3.25; DaLY:122+94), were nearly stable in G2I(pre-I:4.80+3.05; M:3.19+1.98; DaLY:83+54/post-I:5.01+3.18; M:3.19+2.11; DaLY:80+56) and decreased in G2II(pre-I:7.07+5.80, M:4.00+3.27, DaLY:107+89/post-I:6.94+5.88, M:3.65+3.33, DaLY:94+91). Finally, when comparing the two periods, the annual percentage change trends-APC showed a significant decrease in G2II at all magnitude rates (pre-I:0. 15 [-0.08_0.39]; M:-0.06 [-0.27_ 0.15]; DaLY:-0.12 [-0.40_0.14]/ post-I:-0.38 [-0.73_ -0.02]; M:-0.49 [-0.81_-0.17]; DaLY:-0.57 [-0.98_ -0.16]). The results of the study suggest that the countries that had the best MPOWER policies index also had a better impact on oral cancer rates.
