Título: Case Report: mucormycosis oral lesion in a patient with hematological malignancy

Resumo: Mucormycosis is a rare progressive fungal infection of tissue necrosis resulting from vascular invasion of Mucorales fungi and lethal in most cases. Male patient, 24 years old, being treated for acute lymphocytic leukemia and with a recent biopsy of infiltration in a cutaneous lesion. He presented an ulcerative lesion in the region of the palate, painless with oroantral communication 3 months after the start of a chemotherapy regimen. Physical examination, panoramic radiography, computed tomography and incisional biopsy were performed. Microscopic analysis and Gomori-Grocott staining concluded the diagnosis of an acute ulcerative and necrotizing inflammatory process associated with fungi compatible with mucormycosis, occlusive thrombotic vasculopathies with intramural and intravascular fungi. Treatment with local surgical scraping and therapy with amphotericin B. The progression of the disease and the patient´s immunosuppression led to his death twenty days later. Early diagnosis of mucormycosis and immediate treatment is essential in the attempt to survive.
